The Alexan Yale is a two building project using 4-story wood frame on a podium about 2 levels of below grade parking in the Heights. Due to the downsizing of the units to meet the market demands, the units were clear spanned with 21” deep open web trusses. Gypcrete topping and floor decking was increased in thickness to address the floor vibration issues. Due to the difference in loading on the bearing walls, the bearing studs were presented in a stud schedule similar to a column schedule ordinarily shown in a commercial building. This allowed the owner to realize a savings for the unique wall design.
